Privacy policy: Dual Subtitles – Learn Languages with Videos
Last updated: 22 October 2026
Dual Subtitles works inside your browser, on YouTube video pages only. It sends nothing to its developer. It shows no ads and runs no analytics or tracking.
What it reads
On a YouTube video page, the extension reads:
- the video's address, to know which video is playing
- the video's caption tracks and their text
- the video's title and the start of its description, to work out the spoken language when YouTube doesn't say. Chrome's built-in language detector does this on your computer.
- YouTube's saved caption and audio settings, so it can put them back
It uses these only to show the two subtitle lines. It keeps no record of the videos you watch.
What it asks YouTube for
To show the lines, the extension asks YouTube for the video's captions and for YouTube's translation of them. These requests go only to YouTube, just like the ones YouTube's own player makes. If you're signed in to YouTube, your sign-in goes with them, as it does for the player. YouTube's privacy policy covers those requests.
What it changes on YouTube
While it loads the captions, the extension turns on YouTube's captions in the background. When it's done, it puts your caption settings back. On a dubbed video, it plays the original audio and leaves YouTube's saved audio choice as it was.
What it saves
- Your on/off switch, your chosen language and the auto-pause setting. Chrome saves these. If you use Chrome sync, Chrome copies them to your other computers through your Google account.
- The list of languages YouTube can translate into, saved on your computer for the language menu.
What it shares
It shares nothing beyond the caption requests to YouTube described above. No data goes to the developer or to anyone else, and the extension uses no third-party services.
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Changes
If anything here changes, the developer will update this page before the change ships and put the new date at the top.
